At what stage should I appoint a Landscape Architect?
Engaging an experienced Landscape Architect should be considered from the initial concept design phase.
At External Design Solutions we will make an appointment to view your site and sit down and discuss your project with you. We will ask questions about your design ideas, your budget and how you would like to use your garden once it is completed. We will then produce some sketch concepts with some images which will reflect your designs.
If you have any questions or would like to chat through your project, give us a call, we would be happy to have a chat.
What does a Landscape Architect do?
A Landscape Architect is a person who is qualified in Landscape Architecture and has extensive knowledge and experience in providing creative design solutions for a wide range of outdoor spaces including urban plazas, parks and residential gardens to make a place usable, safe and attractive for all to use and enjoy.
We work closely with a range of consultants including the Architect and Client to seamlessly coordinate the design of an external space including gardens, roof terraces, parks, and plazas, to successfully fulfill the design brief, budget and within the time-frame of the project.
If your project is part of a house extension or a new building then we will work closely with the Architect and other consultants to produce a highly coordinated set of landscape concept drawings as part of a Development Application (DA) package. This will include a detailed landscape design, with levels and surface finishes, detailed sections, a planting plan and a material schedule. This will be sufficient information to enable the Council Officers to understand the design intent and grant landscape approval.
At the same time we recommend appointing EDS to carry out the Arboricultural Impact Assessment if there are any trees on site. This is also required as part of the DA.
Once a Development Application has been approved, at EDS we will develop the concept design into a construction package.
These will be used as part of the Tender Documentation to find a landscape contractor to building the landscape elements and also to cost the project properly.
Onsite Inspections & Compliance Certification
As part of the construction phase, one of our Senior Landscape Architect will review onsite progress works and issue a landscape certificate of compliance to confirm that the landscape works are built in accordance with the designs and meet relevant standards.
